Sounds like an acceptance issue.
I could compare them to stereotypes, but perhaps people are talking of a different, extra thing:
I was introduced transgender as a thing when i found a forum online of both people who just see it as a fantasy thing and people really going through with transitioning.
Keep in mind that other people may use certain terms differently than I do and I often address such disparities in the entries.
