Help! How do I start writing a cover letter when I'm completely stuck? 😩

I've been staring at a blank screen for two hours. The cursor is blinking at me like it's mocking my existence. I know I need to write a cover letter for this amazing job, but I have no idea where to begin. Does this sound familiar?

Here's what I do when I'm stuck: I stop trying to write the perfect opening. Instead, I just start dumping everything I know about myself and the job into bullet points. What skills do I have? What have I accomplished? Why do I want this job? What excites me about the company? Once I have a messy list, I look for connections. Which of my skills match their requirements? What experiences show I can do what they need? Those become my paragraphs.

I also remind myself that the first draft doesn't have to be good. It just has to exist. I can fix terrible writing. I can't fix a blank page.

If you're stuck right now, take a breath. Open a new doc and just start typing anything. You'll find your way in. We've all been there! 🙏🙏🙏🙏

Hey Lionel, thank you for this—I'm literally in that blinking cursor situation right now 😩. Your bullet point strategy is genius! I've been trying to craft the perfect first sentence for an hour and getting nowhere. Gonna close this tab and just start dumping everything onto the page, no filter. Quick question though: after you have your messy list, how do you actually structure it into paragraphs? Do you follow a specific format or just let the connections guide you? 🤔
