My paper is over the word limit. A writing guide says: “Cut adverbs (very, really, actually). Cut repetitive phrases. Combine sentences. Remove tangents that don't support your thesis.” I've done that, and I'm still over. Another tip: “Print it out. Read it with a red pen. Circle everything that's not essential.” I'm terrified of cutting something important. How do you know what to keep?
