I'm rewriting the paper I lost. Here's what I'm doing differently

I stopped crying. I stopped being angry. I started writing.

I'm not trying to remember what I wrote. I was attached to those words. Those sentences. Those paragraphs. They're gone. I'm writing new ones.

I'm using the notes I took before I lost it. I had a notebook. Handwritten. Research questions. Sources. Methods. I have that. That's what matters.

I'm working from an outline, not from memory. I used to write without outlines. Thought they were restricting. Now I know they're scaffolding. I have a structure. I'm filling it in.

I'm backing everything up. Every day. Cloud. External drive. Email to myself. Not losing this again.

I told my advisor what happened. She gave me an extension. I told my friend. She proofread what I have.

I'm still behind. But I'm writing.
