I'm in the middle of writing my first real research paper and I'm struggling. Like, staring-at-a-blank-screen-for-hours struggling. My PI suggested "The Scientist's Guide to Writing" and said it has "detailed guidance on submission, review, revision, and publication" plus "invaluable advice on reporting statistical results, dealing with conflicting peer reviews, and writing with English as an additional language" .
That sounds great but also overwhelming. I haven't even gotten to the submission part yet. I'm stuck on the first draft.
The book also encourages "habits that improve motivation and productivity" and includes "a wealth of exercises" . Like, actual exercises? For writing? That's either genius or ridiculous. Has anyone tried them?
My main problems:
Is this book actually helpful or is it more of the same "just write" advice that doesn't work for people like me?

My main problems:
- I don't know how to structure the introduction without writing a novel
- My results section is just numbers with no story
- The discussion is me repeating my results (which apparently is wrong)
