I remember the days of agonizing over the first paragraph, thinking it had to be perfect before I could write the rest of the paper. What a trap that was!
It led to so much unnecessary stress and writer's block. Then, a wise mentor gave me the best advice of my academic life: skip it.
Here’s my positive strategy that I hope helps someone out there:
Instead of forcing the intro first, I jump straight into the body paragraphs where I actually discuss my evidence and analysis. Once the entire paper is written and I fully understand the scope of my argument, I circle back to write the introduction. It’s like putting together a puzzle; it’s way easier to build the frame (intro) when you can already see the whole picture!
Now, my introductions write themselves in 20 minutes, and they actually match the paper! Give it a try and let me know if it works for you. What’s your biggest struggle—the hook, the thesis statement, or just getting started? Let’s discuss!
